Changes I am Making in January

Changes I am Making in January

It is January and you know what that usually means, it's the month of fad diets, of health kicks, it's the month of setting goals and looking towards being the best version of yourself. I love January for this reason, I don't like the idea of January blues or blue Monday because January is a motivating month for me. Whether it is watching others smash their personal goals or creating my own, I adore January because it's that month of the year where mostly everyone is trying to be the best version of themselves, I love to see people heading towards a goal. This year I want to make a bunch of changes, I have told you my yearly goals, which you can read here, but today I want to chat about the life changes I want to make and am looking to make this month to become the best version of myself that I can possibly be.

For me, I can't jump into things all guns blazing, I like to take things in a small section, I put a few smaller goals in front of me which will help to reach the larger goals, then when I reach those goals I move to the next phase. For me, it is how I work best, for most people it is how they work best too. Jumping in head first throws me off, I get frustrated, I don't last long enough and then I give up and spend the next few weeks hating myself for giving up on those goals. So, this year I want to make gradual changes to my life each month and by the end of the year hopefully, I will be the best version of me. I was apprehensive about sharing this journey on here, but I think I want to take you with me on my journey because we all have things we would like to improve about ourselves and maybe if I tell you my areas for improvement we can chat more about them and encourage one another.

Changes I am Making in January

This one is a hard one, I am the biggest pasta fan you have ever probably met. I could eat pasta for my breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week and never get bored. It is my holy grail of food, but I have to slow myself down in how much I eat. I have a fast metabolism so it doesn't show on me how much pasta I eat but I can definitely feel it. I feel sluggish, lethargic and heavy after I eat pasta most times and I am tired of feeling this way. I want food that fills me while giving me a burst of energy and allowing me to feel set for the day. So, I am going to eat less white pasta, I am giving myself the weekend for my pasta eating and even at that, I will probably only eat it once at the weekend which is a huge decreasing from my usual 3 plates of pasta a week.

I was so good at drinking loads of water for the longest time but over Christmas, I kind of went a little Irn Bru crazy and stopped drinking so much water. I want to get back to drinking loads of water again and keep my body hydrated. Water does so much for your body and skin and I want to feel those benefits again. I want to start upping my water intake once again and in doing this also lower my fizzy drink intake to just one with dinner for now.

I want to start swapping the foods I eat for the healthier alternatives, especially when it comes to dinners. All too often I pick the easiest and quickest meal to eat because I am in a rush to eat and move on to whatever else is on my to-do list, I don't want to do this now. I want to pay more attention to what I am eating and focus on eating healthy alternatives, instead of throwing something in to cook quickly I want to pay attention and cook from scratch. I have a few problems when it comes to food, I suffer from IBS which means certain food groups are just unedible for me, this means I have to create my own diet around what my body needs and can tolerate. I'm not going to force myself to abide by a strict gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, polo-vegetarian or whatnot diet because of this. I am going to create a Robyn diet around what I can and want to eat. I haven't eaten red meat most of my life, I'm not a red meat fan, but I eat chicken and tuna so I am taking my diet one step at a time to eat the way my body needs me to instead of eating in a way that forces me to change my lifestyle drastically.

Changes I am Making in January

For the most part, I am quite a sunny positive person who generally looks to the good stuff in life, but when it comes to my own future I tend to lack that positive attitude. I have a habit of doubting myself and my abilities, I don't quite believe in myself like I wish I did. I want to be more positive about the future and where I will be one day instead of always doubting where I will end up. I want to be successful and happy in life so I will be successful and happy in life, no more thinking of how I'm too stupid to do what I want to do. This also comes from my very awkward imposter's syndrome where I don't feel I am worthy enough to actually be successful in life. I sometimes even doubt my grades because "how could I be getting As?"

I love this one, I once read it somewhere that if you do at least one thing a day that benefits your future then you are having a productive day. This could be something small such as updating your CV to doing an essay for university, doing a blog post or applying for jobs. Many things you can do in your everyday life can benefit your life even if you don't really think it does. I like to put aside at least an hour a day to benefit future me and get me ready for my future while making it a more successful future.

This is one thing I may have mentioned in my 2018 goals, I would love to focus less on what other people think of me. So many times I have stopped myself from saying something or doing something because I know other people will think less of me or find a reason to complain about it. I want to live for me and do things because I want to them, like the music I like, enjoy the tv and movies I enjoy and forget how other people will interpret it. If I focus on what other people are thinking about me I am allowing them to control my life which I don't want to do, I want to control my own journey and life.

Are you trying to improve upon yourself this year? Tell me what your January goals are, I want to hear them all.
