If you know me at all you know I’m a very timid person, I am someone who lives within the four walls of my comfort zone, but this year I decided I am done with that. I want to be more fearless, I want to stop living in my comfort zone, and I want to start taking chances and making changes to my life. The only really fearless thing I had done in my life was start my blog, to this day I still look at my blog and wonder where I got the push to actually do it, but it’s became my biggest love and hobby and I am so glad I took the chance.
WHY?
Taking
chances, stepping out of your comfort zone and being fearless is hard, but it’s
hard because it matters. Some of the best things I have ever done are because I
took the chance to step out of my comfort zone and have not restricted myself
to what makes me feel comfortable. Staying in your comfort zone stops you from
being able to take new chances and open yourself up to new opportunities. Look
at the people you look up to, their successes came from them being fearless and
believing in themselves, not from them hiding under their covers and being
scared to put themselves out there.
START SMALL
Don’t go
straight in at the deep end if you don’t feel up to, you should still feel
comfortable and taking things slowly is definitely a way to be comfortable while
leaving your comfort zone. If you want to start a blog then take it one day at
a time, you don’t have to go in day one make a blog, buy a domain, buy a
template and post it onto your Facebook for the world to see. Do it a little at
a time, write some posts, share it with friends or on Twitter and then as you
become more comfortable in yourself and your abilities it will be easier to
leave that 4x4 box of a comfort zone, you will expand your comfort. Yes it will
be scary, but you don’t have to put yourself in a positon where you are truly
utterly 100% uncomfortable if you’re not ready.
EVALUATE WHY
YOU’RE DOING IT
Are you
creating a blog for success? Are you starting your own business for passion?
Are you moving out of your parent’s house because it feels right? Understanding
what your end goal is truly makes it easier to leave your comfort zone. When
starting a blog my end goal was to get into uni and because it was something I
really wanted it made it easier for me to think “C’mon let’s just do this!” Keeping
your end goal in mind gives you a reason to leave your comfort zone and if that
reason truly matters to you then it will be easier for you to take the chance.
STOP LETTING
OTHER PEOPLE EFFECT YOU
Other people
and their opinions seem to be the number one barrier for most people leaving
their comfort zones, mine included. I was so scared to share my blog on my
private Facebook despite my success with it, I found it easy to share my blog
with a group of people I hadn’t met on my Twitter page, but found it really
hard to tell people I went to school and uni with that I was writing a blog and
perusing my passion because I was worried of their judgement. How silly is
that? That we let what other people think of us stop us from doing things we
truly want to do? What others say of you doesn’t matter if you’re having fun
and doing something you love, their opinions are irrelevant.
BELIEVE IN
YOURSELF
In anything
you do it is important to believe in yourself especially when it comes to
taking chances. If you believe that you can achieve what you set out to then it
is easier to move out of your comfort zone and try new ventures. If you don't believe in yourself and your talents then you will never leave your comfort zone.
Are you
always inside your comfort zone? When was the last time you took a chance?
