Brands I Want to Try This Year

Is it just me or is there always a new brand everyone is obsessing over? Everyone is testing it out, blogging about it, deciding which products are worthy of the 'cult favourite' name. I tend to miss out on these trends because I don't like to rush into a brand and buy a bunch of products I don't know if I'll like. I like to wait out the trend and read the reviews before deciding to purchase some items from a brand. There are a few brands I have on my list to try this year or try more of.

BARE MINERALS
I recently paid a visit to Bare Minerals at Glasgow Fort and got a makeover by one of the wonderful girls at the counter. I loved how the products felt on my skin, how it felt like I wasn't wearing any makeup. I went away with a little bag of goodies and couldn't wait to test them out. I loved the feeling of their original base products and how pigmented their shadows are, I also am a fan of their Lash Domination mascara. So this year I want to branch out and try some of their items specifically their base products and brushes.

COLOURPOP
A cult favourite, I am yet to make an order to Colourpop for the simple reason that shipping and tax confuse the life out of when it comes to shipping products from America. So once I have got my head around how it all works I will be making myself a little order. I already know a few shades I can't wait to try out of their liquid lipsticks and I have heard their shadows are incredibly pigmented so I cannot wait to test the brand for myself. If you have any recommendations leave them in the comments.

Brands I Want to Try This Year

KIEHL'S
I have tried a few items from Kiehl's but never fully got into the brand, but I am for sure going to pick myself up some pieces as soon as possible. I have my eyes on a few serums and creams, if you didn't know already I am a major skincare fanatic so a cult favourite like Kiehl's has to be featured in my ever expanding collection. I want to try their masks and I have had my eyes on Midnight Recovery Concentrate for months now, I will be picking one up asap!

KAT VON D
I recently bought my friend a Kat Von D palette for her Christmas and since then I can't stop looking at which products I want. I am obsessed with her tattoo liner, but her eyeshadow palettes look insanely pigmented and are such beautiful shades. Although I may test the concealer, the foundation looks a little too high a coverage for me as I do have pretty clear skin.

Brands I Want to Try This Year

TOO FACED
I LOVE Too Faced, but I don't think I have quite enough in my collection. Their Better Than Sex mascara has become my staple mascara and I am forever recommending it to everyone, along with their liquid lipsticks, but I am yet to try their shadow palettes. I know, I know you are judging me right now, but my heart is with Urban Decay when it comes to palettes, but it is time for me to check out their eyeshadow palettes, especially the peach palette.

ORIGINS
I have a couple Origins masks in my collection, but my skincare fanatic self can't help but want more. I LOVE their products, they tend to be incredible quality and really sink into my skin and leave me feeling blemish free. I think I may add to my collection with a little set of cult favourites, so tell me which gift set I should treat myself with in the comments.

So which brands here have you tested out? Do you recommend any products? Am I a total newbie to the cult makeup gang?

Living More Creativity and Fearlessly
I have been sat at my laptop for about a half hour now, just looking at this blank blog post, searching my brain for something to write about. I write about a variety of content on here, from makeup to skincare to university and how to tips and tricks, so you'd think my content is pretty easy to come up with, you'd be wrong. I am a naturally creative person, I am frequently referred to as 'artsy' and even 'an outside the box thinker', but still I hit a wall when it comes to blog posts. It's not that I have lost interest in blogging, it fact it tends to be the exact opposite, I have a brain fart on those weeks when all I can think about is my blog and where I want it to go.

That makes sense though doesn't it? That my most difficult creative period is usually around the time when all I am doing is overthinking, overthinking my blog's future, my content, my readership. I have found that when I am too busy thinking of the statistics, the worrying of 'am I good enough?' my creative mind tends to go for a snooze, like 'here she goes again, off on a rant about how she'll never amount to anything, I'm not needed today, I'm going back to bed.' I mean if you woke up bright and early filled with ideas and your boss shut them all down before he heard them telling you that the workplace isn't ready for the workload, would you keep trying? No, of course, you wouldn't, it's common sense.

I am almost at the end of my book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and she talks all about letting go of your fears in order to live a more fearless life, now I am not going to ever stop worrying, it is who I am, but I want to prevent my fears from putting my creativity to sleep. Instead of being sat at my laptop wonder which blog post would attract the most readers or what will give my stats a post. You see, I'm not a fan of using my content to boost my stats, like people who use competitions to get them more followers every other week. (I'm talking about the people who literally never have a period of time where they don't have a competition or giveaway on their blog).

I want to live more fearlessly all together, I don't want to live in fear of what people may think of me, I don't want to not post a blog post because someone might not like it, I'm not going to not apply for a job just in case I don't get it. It's all pretty dumb anyway, I mean trying and failing it better than never trying at all, isn't it? Too often we put our own barriers in front of us, instead of just going for it and waiting to see what comes of it, we tell ourselves that we already know the outcome, when we don't, I am not psychic and chances are neither are you.

Living More Creatively and Fearlessly

I am all about the laws of attraction, I firmly believe that what you put out into the world decides what you bring back from the world, I believe that by trying to get that job that you haven't got experience for is still a good idea because you are telling the world you want it and the world will answer, maybe not by giving you the job, maybe giving you job in the same company or in a different position. I believe that in order to get things in life you have to go out of your way to achieve them, you don't get a thing by lying in bed moping about what a failure you are, you go out there and show the world you're ready for a challenge.

I leave university in April/May and I am terrified, I don't really know what there is for me after education, I mean I have been in it since I was 5, so 16 years this year, isn't that insane? The majority of my life has been spent in education! So there's no surprise I am terrified of what is next, I am used to being coddled in the soft, secure blanket that is education and now there is no security or a definitely, there is a hand full of positions in the sector I wish to go into and roughly a gazillion people who also want those jobs, who are also applying for the same positions.

I could either let this reality terrify me into never leaving my bed again, deciding that living in my parent's non-existent basement is a better outcome, but I'm not. I am allowing it to motivate me, I am perfecting my CV, I am talking to people in the industry, I am bulking up my experience in that sector and I am sending out emails to potential employers telling them my interest and asking if they have any jobs available for when I leave university. So far, the universe has answered my positivity with further positivity and I have two job interviews coming up later in the year, I have knowledge others don't of when job ads will be going live and I have some insider information about what people are looking for, I am thinking one step ahead because I am ready to fight for my own happiness. (Not literally, I have never had a physical fight in my life, it's not for me.)

It's not all been rainbows and butterflies, I have had some ignored emails, I have been told a firm "no, we can't tell you any information" and I have even had a few people laugh at my optimism, but it's all part of trying. If I didn't get some negativity from it then I'd be a little worried, rejection is part of trying and without it, the acceptance, the offers, the interviews, they wouldn't be half as great because we would have nothing to compare them to.

I'm not entirely sure how I got to this from what I originally began writing when I decided to put my fingers to the keys, but here we are. Life is all about taking chances and making things happen for yourself, letting go of our fears and embracing our creativity, our persistence and our optimism.

When did you last take a chance? Tell me all about it in the comments whether the outcome was positive or negative.

2017 Wardrobe Refresh
I don't know about you, but I love January, I love the feeling of a new year, a fresh start. I like to see each new year as 365 blank pages of a twelve chapter book, we get to write ourselves a new story. My 2016 story was quite boring, it wasn't a book I would re-read, maybe certain chapters, maybe even just some pages, but overall, I don't feel like it excited me enough to keep it on my bookcase, easy to grab and reread.

I am dedicated to making a change in 2017. This year I will be graduating from uni, I will enter the real world, the world of working 5 days a week, a world of being an adult with a career, taxes and a savings account. I know, I know I am going to be an actual adult this year and it is freaking me out, so let's forget that part of 2017 for the rest of this post.

I have decided in 2017 I want to have a refresh, I bought myself a new TV and a new laptop, I have decided to start reading again and so far this year I have read 3 and a half books in the past 3 weeks. I have decided to clear my mindset and try to only focus on things that bring me joy a la Sarah Knight (read The Life-Changing Magic of not Giving a F**k, it's changed me). To top it all off I want to refresh something very important to me, my wardrobe.

Although my blog focuses a lot on beauty, makeup, skincare, cosmetics and all that jazz (have I mentioned that La La Land also changed me? Go see it now) I have a huge, massive, humongous, ginormous love for fashion, for clothes and styling and shoes, god I love shoes. So next payday I plan on making a pretty large ASOS order, and probably a Missguided order, maybe a River Island one too, might dabble on Topshop, check out H&M... to sum it up, I am going to try my best to squeeze thousands more clothes in my overflowing wardrobe and drawers.

Since we are all about sharing here on heythererobyn, I thought I would share with you some pieces I have my eyes on over on one of my favourite clothing websites, ASOS.
2017 Wardrobe Refresh

I seem to be loving lace right now and ribbons, blouses, jumpers... I am not entirely sure what my style falls under, I have been described as preppy by some, business casual by other, I like to refer to my style as me. I don't like the idea of putting myself in a box of deciding I am girly or edgy, I like to wake up in the morning and pick an outfit that I like and feel comfortable in.

Something I am in love with right now is lace up shoes, I love the ones in number 11 that are almost like ballet shoes with a ribbon tied around your ankle, number 13 are gorgeous too, and being black would definitely fit in with my usually black attire. Although as you can see, I am trying to branch out and wear more colours, and incorporate brighter tones into my wardrobe.

Doesn't the skirt in number 16 remind you of Clueless too? It looks terrifyingly short, but I really want to look like Cher, minus the mustard yellow, because us sallow skin girls are yellow enough without wearing mustard.

I am in desperate need of a card wallet, I tend to leave the house with just my bank card in my pocket, but then I miss out on all my points cards, because who wants to carry 18 cards in their pocket? Number 6 is from Whistle and looks perfect, I love the neutral shade, which of course seems to be my palette for my wardrobe refresh except number 3, but red is my all time favourite colour so I couldn't give that a miss.

Is there anything here you would buy too? Or anything that is just not you, tell me in the comments!

Stop Demonizing Bloggers

I caught part of a TV show last week, for 20 minutes two women spoke about how bloggers take advantage of their readers, how collectively we only like our readers because we can make an easy buck off them. It is extremely sad to me that these rumours, lies, and assumptions are being fed to people about bloggers when clearly not a single blogger has been contacted for the show.
Can people stop demonizing bloggers?!
The Three S's of The New Year

It is a new year which means a chance to improve upon yourself whether it be physical, emotionally or mentally, the new year is a fresh chapter to do with as you see freely. I love the idea of starting fresh, leaving your troubles back in the one that came before. I have left a few troubles in 2016 and this year I want to improve upon the 3 S's that are my skin, sleep, and smile in 2017.
Five to Buy

If you haven't read any of my recent blog posts then you probably have no idea I am trying very hard to improve my blog, upon trying to improve my blog I have come up with this fun new section; five to buy. Every now and then I am going to post a 'five to buy' telling you five of my favourite beauty products at the moment and why you should try them!
Stop Judging Me

It can be hard being a makeup fanatic. People judge us by how little we wear or how much we wear, for our ever growing collections, for the amount of money we spend on makeup and most importantly of all we are judged purely because of our love of makeup.
Feel-Good Movies to Start Your New Year
Happy New Year!!
It is the second of January and I don't know about you, but I love the beginning of the year, the start of a new chapter in your life, I feel so ambitious and motivated at this time of year. This year I want to read more although I don't know if you know this about me, but I am a massive movie buff. I love movies, I love action, superhero, factual biography styled movies and anything that Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth... anything that stars one of the Hollywood Chris'. I LOVE movies, so while I am trying to read more let me introduce you to some of my favourite feel good movies to start your 2017 right.
