Review: The POREfessional Matte Rescue

Monday, 7 March 2016

Recently I came home from university to a lovely pink package from Benefit waiting for me, as with anyone who gets a package from Benefit I was super excited to open it and see what the lovely bunch had sent me. When I saw it was the new POREfessional Matte Rescue I was very happy, I was planning to pick this little guy up for myself anyway so I knew getting the chance to sample it before I buy was a good idea.

When I opened the package there was a luxury sample size of the product along with a little leaflet all about the #riseandprime line Benefit are extending upon lately.

The first page has a description of the two products
recently added to the line, the POREfessional Matte Rescue and The POREfessional Instant Wipeout Mask. On the second page there is a little promo picture for the other #riseandprime products and then a description of the Hello Flawless foundation.

The leaflet is definitely helpful by giving lots of needed information as well as being great for promotion because I now want to try the Instant Wipeout Masks too!

It describes the Matte Rescue as 'lightweight. water-based gel instantly overpowers shine and absorbs excess surface oil, leaving a natural-looking matte finish.' and of course I put this to the test over the past couple of weeks.

So of course I began to use this the very next time I was wearing make up, I cleansed my face and applied my moisturiser before putting a thin, even layer of the Matte Rescue primer to my face. The first thing I noticed was the colour of the gel, it is blue, what?! Primers tend to be misty clear, clear or white in colour from my previous experience, so I was quite taken aback by the shade of this one, but it is in fact the prettiest blue tone.

Firstly, this product is super lightweight and soft, when applied I could barely feel the product on my face and of course the colour did not show, my skin was not tinted blue at all so no need to worry. The product is smooth and applies without issue, no toughness or tugging of the skin upon application like I have experienced before, I loved how smooth it felt and made my skin feel.

The product has the same diamond powder ingredient which blurs pores on the face, although my pores are barely visible, the few which I could make out on my nose I inspected intently before and after application and they were almost invisible with the product on top.

On top of the primer I applied Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation, my favourite foundation of the moment. Not only is it a favourite at the moment, but I also wanted to see how the products would work together as the foundation advertises a healthy glow and gives me a dewy look. It does seem that the mattifying agent is stronger than the dewy agents of the foundation as my skin looked more matte than ever before, but it also looked super healthy and the glow was still visible, but didn't look dewy per say.

The next day I then tried MAC Studio Fix on top of the primer which is actually aimed towards those with oily skin, the pair together made my face look like I was a China Doll, although my skin still had a healthy glow it was more matte than the previous day.

The product is incredible at mattifying the skin, but if you're looking for a super matte finish you do have to factor in the foundation you are using and which agents it has in it too and use foundation in accordance to this. I personally prefer not to look like a China Doll with unrealistically matte skin, so I have continued to use the product along with Bourjois Healthy Mix.

So how is this product throughout the day? Perfect! I have excess oil on my chin, but with this product my chin does not get shiny halfway through the day, I never have to apply setting powder or try to mattify my foundation because I never look oily or greasy which I do struggle with every now and again. Not only does it keep everything looking natural and non-greasy, but this product is a fantastic primer. I never have to reapply anything minus my lipstick throughout the day, which is a massive bonus considering with many other primers I have still had to apply setting powders, concealer, highlight throughout the day.

With both foundations they applied incredibly, very smooth and even. The base evens out the skin and I had no problems with application of foundation or any other products.

It does say that using the original POREfessional after this product enhances everything, but I don't have any of the original at the present moment, I didn't quite agree with it when I first tried it out, but I think I will have to give it another chance after how great this version is.

To summarise:
Mattifying: 8/10
Application: 10/10
Base: 10/10
Keeping everything intact:  9/10
Overall: 9/10

Have you tried this beauty? How did you find it? What's your favourite primer?
