Why I Blog...

Thursday, 23 July 2015

A question I am frequently asked as a blogger is "why?", "why do you blog?" the answer for each blogger is a completely different one. My answer may be similar to someone else's, but for me, it's a very complex answer. You see the reason I actually started to blog is a completely different one from why I continue, my blogging story is a rather odd one.

So to begin, I'll start with why I started to blog in the first place. I was writing my personal statement for my UCAS application and I had no idea how to sell myself to the universities. That's when my lecturer mentioned that most universities look for applicants that have some sort of blog, so I began mine.

Upon starting heythererobyn I had no idea what I was doing, I didn't really have much time to do my research on publishing platforms, domains, niche subjects. All I knew was that there was such a thing as Blogger and that I could write about things that interested me on it.

My layout was horrible, my photography wasn't all that great, I was writing about such random subjects, I had no idea bloglovin was a thing or that people would read my blog one day. Actually I had no idea how to share and promote my blog.

I always wanted to blog, I have always had a passion for helping people and a knack for writing, I mean I have done journalism classes, but I didn't know quite how hard work I would have to put into blogging, I enjoyed it though.

It wasn't until I took some time away from the blogesphere that I realised just how much I actually enjoyed blogging. This was sometime in May.

From then on I decided I wanted to take my blog seriously. I started to revamp my layout, talk to other bloggers, promote my blog and take more and more time to create great, readable, entertaining content.

Ask me when I started, why I blog and I would tell you it was so I could get into university. Ask my now and it'd definitely not the same answer, and not just because I got my place in my dream course. I blog now because I enjoy it, because it's something I would like to do for a very long time, because I am passionate about it.

I don't think it's a bad thing that one day I would like to have a larger readership, that one day I would like to be paid for my blog or earn money from it in the basis of a part-time job. I want to be appreciated for the effort I put in and not because I am greedy, no, because I want to succeed.

So to answer the question, I started to blog without a passion and I didn't start blogging to have fun, but now that I do blog, I blog because it's fun, because it's a passion and makes me happy. I blog because I like to write and share, I like to teach and learn. I blog for a whole bunch of reasons that I didn't even know to begin.

I encourage anyone with a laptop and a skill in grammar and writing to start a blog. It may be difficult at first and I'm not saying it is every easy, but finding your passion for it, finding your reason for blogging makes it less difficult and it becomes fun and something you do because you enjoy it more than anything.

Like always I started to ramble, but thanks for reading.
Do you blog? Why?
If not, why?
